How many quarts of oil to change a 2001 Ford Explorer V8?

This will be my first time changing the oil in my car, but i'm not sure what type of oil to get or how much to use. It's a V8 engine, i believe 5.0. Also, do I need to change the oil filter every time I change the oil, or is there a general rule of thumb with that?
