How can I travel with contact lenses?

I'm going to be traveling to soon, and I want to know the easiest way to travel with contacts. I can't seem to find a bottle of contact lens solution that is 3 oz. or smaller, and from the stories of my family members, I want to avoid bringing my 4oz. in my carry-on so it won't be confiscated. What one of my siblings did was that he kept his lenses in the small case with solution in, placed in the quart sized ziploc bag along with his other liquids, and just used glasses on the plane. Would that be a smart idea? I plan on buying solution at my destination, so I don't technically need to bring solution with me.
